Recognize Your Habits

Before we can begin to cultivate healthy habits, we must first recognize the habits we already have.

This means taking a closer look at our daily routines and identifying patterns that are contributing to our overall health and wellness.

For example, if we find ourselves reaching for sugary snacks throughout the day, we may want to make a healthier choice or consider why we’re craving sugar in the first place.

By recognizing our current habits, we can begin to make more mindful choices that support our well-being.

Which may mean letting go of habits that no longer serve us and replacing them with new ones that align with our goals and values.

How To Make Aligned Micro Choices

Making aligned micro choices every day means choosing our priorities and being intentional about the actions we take.

A great way to do this is to clearly define our priorities and what we really want in life. Then, we know exactly what steps to take to now to reach our desires.

It’s important to remember that cultivating healthy habits starts with small, consistent actions, or micro choices, that can lead to significant changes over time.

Recognizing what’s important to us and taking the steps to get what we want is an excellent way to model self-wellness to our kids too.

How To Empower Our Kids To Make Healthier Choices

As parents, we have the opportunity to model healthy habits to our children and empower them to make healthier choices too!

Get them involved in cooking meals, choosing their own snacks, or choosing a physical game or activity.

Children learn by example, so it’s important to remember to model the behaviors we want to teach our kids.

We get to say ‘yes’ and make it fun for all of us!

When we prioritize our own health and wellness, we can set a positive example and inspire our children to make healthier choices too.

The Difference Between Self-Care and Self-Wellness

Self-care and self-wellness are often used interchangeably, but they have distinct differences.

Self-care is used to describe caring for ourselves when we’re overwhelmed, stressed, or physically sick.

This kind of care is important when we’re not feeling well, but there’s a better way!

Self-wellness, on the other hand, is a more holistic wellness approach where we take care of ourselves when we’re already healthy. It’s a preventative type of care that keeps us healthy, both mentally and physically, for much longer.

Making mindful choices around nutrition and exercise that support our overall well-being is the key.

We can create a more aligned and fulfilling life that supports our physical, emotional, and mental health when we practice self-wellness.

Cultivate Healthy Habits with Nutrition

Nutrition is so important to our overall health and wellness, and there are many ways to cultivate healthy habits with nutrition in our lives.

Exploring different ways to introduce new and exciting foods to our plates and our kids’ plates is a great way to start.

Letting them pick their snacks out of a few mom-approved options or eating the colors of the rainbow are fun ways to get our kids involved.

There are no hard and fast rules here. You get to choose what you want to eat aligned with your priorities. Sometimes that may look like carrot sticks, sliced cucumbers, a ripe tomato, or apple slices with almond butter.

We have so many different options and we get to decide what that looks like for us and how we want to live our lives.

A healthy and balanced approach to nutrition can support our desires and align with our priorities.

Aligned Exercise

Exercise is a great way to get our bodies moving and live a fulfilling life. When we feel good in our bodies, that feeling radiates out to everything else in our lives.

By thinking of self-wellness first, we can cultivate healthy habits around exercise that aligns with our values and goals.

There’s no need to stick to running on the treadmill if we don’t want to! There are so many different ways to exercise that we can enjoy and look forward to.

Playing a game of tag with our kids, hiking, swimming, yoga, or gardening are fun options for spending time with our kids and exercising at the same time.

Remember the point is progress rather than perfection!
